Acorn Award Winner At London Hilton On Park Lane
Hotel Proud To Have A Rising Star

LONDON - The 2010 Acorn Winners were announced in June this year and London Hilton on Park Lane is proud to have one of their key members of staff included in the final pick.
Katherine Fry, assistant health and safety manager, has been awarded a Caterer Acorn Award, which recognises the flair and talent of 30 up and coming professionals under 30 years of age in the UK. The Acorn Awards were set up back in 1986 to give something back to the young people who have chosen to contribute their talent to hospitality. Now in their 24th year, the awards acknowledge rising talent within the industry and celebrate the future stars of hospitality.
Ms. Fry joined London Hilton on Park Lane in 2008 and her role has seen her support the team through incidents including an attempted armed robbery, a gas leak and power failure. Nominated by Michael Shepherd, general manager of London Hilton on Park Lane, Ms. Fry has helped improve the hotel's annual health and safety audit score from 73.5 percent in 2008 to 86 percent in 2009. This has been achieved by Ms. Fry developing a ‘safety culture’ within the hotel that supports and endorses the provision of outstanding personal five star service and hospitality.
Ms. Fry graduated in 2008 with a MSc in Environmental Health and then embarked on her career as a health and safety manager with Hilton. Her work involves coordinating staff in order to maintain high standards in health and safety in the hotel including fire safety and food safety, as well as working with external organisations. Ms. Fry has been in consultation with the Royal National Institute for the Deaf to refine supporting equipment which is in place at the hotel to facilitate those with a hearing impairment. This includes induction loops and an infra-red system. Working with the London Fire Brigade she has designed and implemented Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) for our staff and guests with various disabilities. She also maintains communication with colleges and has previously assisted other students by liaising with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health on their behalf.
Ms. Fry is just one of three Hilton members to be recognised this year. Matthew Burns, executive chef, Hilton Liverpool and Rohit Kapoor, director of finance, Hilton Manchester Deansgate were also awarded Caterer Acorn Awards. Hilton Worldwide had more representation than any other company in the awards, demonstrating the company’s commitment to promote and develop young, talented people in the industry.
