MUNICH - To support threatened bee populations in Germany, Hilton Munich Park has placed beehives on its rooftop. The hotel joins 13 other Hilton properties in Europe that have installed beehives as part of their commitment to preserving the environment.

In recent years, bee populations have decreased rapidly due to climate change, the use of pesticides and a lack of food sources for bees. Bees pollinate plants and agricultural crops, ensuring a successful harvest - and so their decline poses a major threat to the world's food supply.

To create an environment where bees can thrive, Hilton Munich Park has installed two beehives on the rooftop above the 15th floor, allowing the bees to collect pollen in the English Garden, ideally located around the hotel.

Dependent on the weather, the hotel will be expecting the first honey by end of May and it is planned to use the home-grown sweetness for Hilton Honors guests as a special treatment. This echoes Hilton's mission to create heartfelt experiences for guests and a positive impact on communities.

"Installing beehives at our hotel has helped us make an impact on the ecosystem in a simple, effective way", said Erwin Verhoog, general manager, Hilton Munich Park, "Bees are essential to our survival.  We hope more individuals and companies will be inspired to install beehives, so that together we can all contribute to supporting this threatened species."

This initiative is part of Hilton's commitment to preserving the environment, one of the three pillars of its global corporate responsibility strategy, Travel with Purpose.
