Executive Chef Takes Decade-long Middle East Experience To Hilton Seychelles

ABU DHABI - Moving on from the helm of kitchen teams at leading hotels and restaurants in the Middle East, Taufik Sutisna joins Hilton Seychelles Labriz Resort & Spa as Executive Chef.

In his new role, Taufik takes the reins of the kitchens in the luxury resort located on Silhouette Island, managing the seven onsite restaurants which feature a variety of cuisines and the private dining service offered in the villas and on the beach.

With more than 24 years' experience in the hospitality industry, Taufik worked with award-winning venues in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Oman before moving to his new venture in the Seychelles. 

Taufik brings more than a decade of his GCC experience to Seychelles, a popular destination for Middle Eastern travellers. He hopes to introduce his signature recipes and different cooking styles that he mastered in his time in the UAE and Oman to the Seychellois people and tourists holidaying at the resort.

"I am excited to be a part of Hilton Seychelles Labriz and to take up the responsibility of developing the culinary standards of its restaurants. We have seven fantastic F&B venues here, and each of them has already set the bar high for me," said Taufik.

"One of my first tasks is to create an exceptional culinary experience in our Asian outlets - Sakura and Teppanyaki. I believe my experience managing the award-winning Asian restaurants in the Middle East and Indonesia will help me achieve this goal."

Hailing from Indonesia, Taufik kicked off his career in the hospitality industry in 1993. In 2001, he began managing kitchen operations at five-star properties, before he got promoted to the role of sous chef in 2005.

"I have always loved being in the kitchen. Some of my best childhood memories are helping my mother while she cooked delicious Sumatran dishes the traditional way. Maybe the guests at Labriz will get to try her special recipes," Taufik said.

Having specialised in Asian cuisines, Taufik takes inspiration from his mother's home-style cooking. He still keeps her recipes a closely guarded secret, and believes she is the reason that he chose to become a chef.

Taufik moved to Dubai as a training and quality chef for an Asian restaurant franchise, where he helped in the successful launch of the casual dining concept in five new locations across Asia. In 2009, he moved to Abu Dhabi as chef de cuisine where he won a Chef of the Year award.  

"Moving to the Middle East was a big leap for me, but it was also one of the most fruitful of my life choices. Opportunities are limitless, and it helped me build my career," Taufik said.

In 2012, Taufik joined Hilton Salalah Resort in Oman as an executive chef, where he managed the kitchen teams of six F&B outlets. He returned to Dubai in 2014 to oversee the operations and development of a global restaurant franchise, before moving back to Abu Dhabi in 2016 to launch a unique Asian dining concept which has earned several awards since its inception. 

"Moving to the Seychelles is another giant step and I expect it to be an exciting experience. I cannot wait to explore the authentic Creole cuisine while I'm here, and perhaps even see some familiar faces from the Middle East along the way."
