Hilton Athens Makes A Little Go A Long Way

ATHENS -  Generous hotel guests at Hilton Athens have used their small change to make a big difference to children with disabilities thanks to a special fundraiser. The three month campaign, which has been running across Hilton hotels in Europe throughout October, November and December 2009, has raised a total of €65,000.

The Hilton in the Community Foundation campaign invited Hilton guests to add an optional €1 onto their room bill during their stay. Guests in Greece have raised a fantastic €5,535 from the campaign, while Ioniki, the owners of the property, kindly agreed to cover all of the tax costs associated with the campaign in Greece. All proceeds raised in Athens will be used to support the Hellenic Society for Disabled Children (ELEPAP), which works towards the smooth integration of children with mobility and learning difficulties into society.

Hilton Athens excelled by raising the second biggest amount in Europe after Hilton Wembley Plaza. The General Manager of the hotel, Mr. Bart Van de Winkel, handed over the check to Mrs. Karella-Diamandopoulou, President of ELEPAP, during a lunch organized at the Byzantine in the honour of ELEPAP Board Members. Mr. van de Winkel said: “I would like to thank every guest who chose to donate to this campaign. We are delighted to be supporting ELEPAP and hopefully this grant will help them to improve many disadvantaged children’s lives here in Greece.”

“Small Change Big Difference” has been running since 2004 in the UK and Ireland, raising over €946,000 for charity. The campaign has expanded this year to include Continental Europe for the first time. A total of 116 hotels in 14 European countries have contributed to the money raised.
