Hilton Athens Supports “Earth Hour” This Year
Hilton Athens Will Switch Off Its Lights For One Hour, Supporting WWF’s Global Initiative
March 16, 2010
ATHENS - On Saturday, 27th of March, at 20:30, more than one billion people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something very simple - turning off their lights for one hour. This year as well, Hilton Athens will switch off its lights for one hour, supporting WWF’s global initiative and conveying the message that each and every one of us can act against global warming.
“Earth Hour”, an initiative launched by WWF (World Wildlife Fund) three years ago in Sydney, is a global call to action, to take responsibility and to get involved in leading the way towards a sustainable future. By encouraging all of us to take a simple step, the “Earth Hour” movement symbolizes the impact that we can have by working together to protect our future. This year, once more, we are called to embrace our responsibilities and support this initiative. Global landmarks, monuments and buildings will stand in darkness and people all around the world will switch off their lights and join their “forces” for the future of our planet.
Last year, over 4,000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off their lights to pledge support for the planet, making “Earth Hour 2009” the world’s largest global climate change initiative. 2010 is expected to be the most successful “Earth Hour” ever. Hilton Athens, in accordance with Hilton Worldwide, takes its environmental responsibility very seriously and always supports such important initiatives. This year as well, the hotel’s external and internal lights will be switched off for an hour. Moreover, restaurants and bars will operate by candle light, whilst guests will be encouraged to switch off their room lights.
Switching off the lights for just an hour is a simple, harmless movement but with a huge symbolism, as it sends out a powerful environmental message. To learn more about “Earth Hour” visit www.earthhour.org
