Hilton Property Becomes Third Hotel In Texas To Earn Green Seal Distinction

AUSTIN, Tex. -  Hilton Austin Airport has been awarded the national Green Seal, Silver Level Achievement for Environmental Operational Commitment. In sincere efforts to "go green" and improve the environment, Hilton Austin Airport is one of only three hotel properties in the state of Texas to earn this distinguished declaration of environmental operational accomplishment.

Green Seal, Inc., of Washington, DC, is a not-for-profit organization, which promotes and represents environmental responsibility throughout the United States. The seal can be found among restaurants, hotels and other institutions across the country, signifying an environmentally friendly establishment which uses green products and follows preset, strict standards regarding purchasing, recycling and general operation. The Silver level is awarded to properties that have substantially reduced their environmental impact and operate at the leadership level of sustainable practices.

In obtaining this certification the Hilton has shown a commitment to conservation and purchasing decisions it makes in regards to the environment. In addition to embracing these greener practices, the hotel gives back to the community by donating food and other nonperishable items to local churches and organizations. Also, the hotel goes beyond "green practices" by seeking to buy and use local produce and meats from local farmers which helps the local economy and reduces the Hotel's overall carbon footprint.

"We put a sizeable effort into our plan for recycling and energy management. Our staff is committed to doing what we can to conserve in Austin, Texas," Jim Sweet, General Manager, Hilton Austin, said.

Sweet stated that the Hilton has a "Green Team" in place at the hotel which monitors the standards required by Green Seal to maintain certification.

Girin Mehta, the Hotel's Executive Controller, oversees the ‘Green Team' along with Co-Chair, Sergio Orozco, Chief Engineer.
