BIRMINGHAM, UK -  The luxury four star hotel saw a dramatic increase in occupancy numbers as many airlines cancelled or delayed flights from Birmingham International Airport.  After a last minute phone call from an airline flight manager on Monday 4th January, it was all hands on deck to book in the 400 plus stranded guests. Many staff extended their working hours to process bookings and check guests in until just after midnight. Passengers however, were able to have a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast before moving onto the next stage of their journey.

Patrick Stapleton, General Manager of Hilton Birmingham Metropole, said. “The influx of guests was, like the weather, quite an unexpected turn of events but our staff pulled out all the stops to ensure everyone was accommodated.  It is well reported across the country the negative impact the snow is having on travel and although not in ideal circumstances, we were glad to be able to help!”

The hotel also managed to take on a last-minute four day conference booking from a church group. Hilton Birmingham Metropole’s conference and banqueting team received a phone call at 11am Monday 4th January from the event organiser who explained that their current location was no longer available due to an outbreak of Norovirus and that they needed a venue that could accommodate 350 delegates and start their conference at 6pm that evening.

The team quickly put the wheels in motion to turn the event around and a mere three hours later, the event organiser was being briefed on the plans for the next four days.

Jonathan Montgomery, Conference and Event Sales Manager at the hotel explained: “It was definitely a challenge to organise an event in such a short time but the success of the event is a testament to the quality of our events team who provided the same high-class service are conference and events clients expect after six months of planning.”

Located on the site of the NEC and only 10 minutes from Birmingham International airport, the 790 bedroom hotel boasts two restaurants, a comfortable lounge bar and fully-equipped LivingWell Health Club and heated indoor swimming pool.

With 33 meeting rooms and space to entertain up to 2000 delegates, Hilton Birmingham Metropole also makes the ideal conferencing and event location.
