Hilton Chicago Wins Historic Hotels Of America 2015 Awards Of Excellence

CHICAGO - Hilton Chicago is pleased to announce it has received the New Member of the Year award from Historic Hotels of America at the 2015 Awards of Excellence. The 2015 Annual Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner took place at West Baden Springs Hotel (1902) at French Lick Resort in West Baden Springs, Indiana on Thursday, October 8.

Hilton Chicago is one of more than 260 hotels and resorts throughout the country that is recognized by Historic Hotels of America for preserving and maintaining its historic integrity, architecture and ambiance. Opening its doors in 1927 as the Stevens Hotel, the Hilton Chicago was the recognized as the world's largest hotel at the time offering a "City within a City" feel with amenities such as a bowling alley, barber shop, rooftop miniature golf course, movie theater, ice cream shop and drug store.

The property features original 1927 French-crafted fixtures, Czechoslovakian crystal chandeliers, Fresco-style oil paintings and the remains of a French cruise liner in what is now known as the Normandie Lounge. Additionally, the hotel housed 10,000 U.S. Army air cadets during WWII and every president of the United States since Truman.
