EDINBURGH, UK -  Most visitors to Scotland are unaware of the restrictions on exporting meat, livestock and poultry to their home countries so could lose their chance to sample ‘the great chieftan o' the pudding race' when landing back on home soil.

Therefore, passengers travelling through Scotland's busiest airport this week will be able to swap their haggis contraband for a real taste of Scotland as they hand-in their haggis before check-in.

Hilton Edinburgh Airport is giving holidaymakers and business people the opportunity to swap their uncooked Haggis for a traditional Burns Supper of haggis, neeps and tatties with a ‘wee dram' of whisky ensuring they don't miss out on the most time-honoured of Scottish dishes before returning home.

Travellers are being asked to present their airline tickets or proof of travel plus haggis to staff to redeem their Haggis Amnesty deal at Hilton Edinburgh Airport's restaurant.

Hilton Edinburgh Airport runs a shuttle bus service from the airport to the hotel between flights meaning those who wish to finish their stay in the capital with some traditional fayre can relax whilst the hotel reception boasts up to date airport information screens to ensure diners don't miss their connections.

Michael Squire, general manager at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport, said: "Haggis is an icon in Scotland, and we want to allow everyone visiting the country to have had the chance to sample the Bard's namesake dish for Burns night.

"Edinburgh Airport welcomes over 9 million passengers every year and flies to over 100 destinations and Hilton Edinburgh Airport's sous chef, Garry Macphee, will be going all out to make sure that everyone has the time for a taste of Scotland without becoming a fugitive from the law!"
