GLASGOW, UK -  Hilton hotels in Glasgow are inviting the local community to travel "Around the World in a Day" on Sunday June 14th as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation's annual national charity event.

All proceeds raised from this year's event at the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor will be donated to Glasgow Hawks Sports Trust. The donation will help support the rugby club's community development program, encouraging children from deprived areas into sports.

Proceeds raised at Hilton Glasgow will be donated to DebRA. DebRA is the only charity in the UK working on behalf of people living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds.

The effort in Glasgow is part of a UK-wide challenge. Hilton team members, charity partners and the public will all be working together in over 70 hotels and offices all over the country, collectively aiming to travel the circumference of the earth - 24,901.55 miles. They will also be competing to see who can cover the most miles.

Participants at Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor will aim to cover as much distance as possible for charity with a ‘Beauty versus the Beast' team challenge. The Scottish Rockettes pro cheerleading dance team will go head to head with the Glasgow Hawks Rugby team to try to cover as much distance as possible on cardiovascular equipment at the hotel.

Staff at the hotel will be taking part on the day and are encouraging anyone from the community to come along and support local kids.

For children there will be a Wii sports tournament, so they too can participate and take part in the action. The charity challenge will begin at 8.00am and will take place in the hotel's Botanic suite on the upper ground level of the hotel.

Chief executive of Glasgow Hawks, Kenny Baillie said: "The Glasgow Hawks are delighted to support and participate in the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor's Around the World in a Day. Rugby is a great sport which demands a lot of endurance and I'm sure our players will thoroughly embrace the challenge of competing in this fantastic event."

There will also be face painting and a Yummy Mummy bake sale on the day, so whether you want to participate or just go along to cheer on the teams there are a host of activities for all the family and everyone's support is most welcome.

At Hilton Glasgow participants will aim to cover as much distance as possible by scaling a climbing wall in the hotel's reception. Staff will also be doing a sponsored walk from the hotel to the Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor as well as a departmental relay race up and down the 20 storeys of the building to build up miles.

According to Stuart Nelson, general manager of Hilton Glasgow Grosvenor this year's event is another fantastic opportunity for the community to get together and to have fun in support of a great cause.
"It doesn't matter what age you are or your fitness level, every bit of effort helps! To get involved all you have to do is register in advance and come and join us on June 14th for an amazing day of summer fun and exercise."

Around the World in a Day is being supported this year by Gladiators from Sky One's news series. Enigma, Doom, Siren, Amazon and Warrior attended the event's launch and a Gladiator team will be competing in the Team Challenge at one of the Hilton hotels this summer. Participants around the country can then pit their times against those of the muscle-bound stars throughout the day via a live internet link-up.
Registration packs, including an event t-shirt cost just £5. To register or to find out more information please call 020 7605 7641 or log onto www.hilton-foundation.org.uk

About the Hilton in the Community Foundation
Hilton in the Community Foundation was founded in 2000 as Hilton Hotels' charity dedicated to supporting young people in need. Focused on disabled children, children in hospitals, hospices and homelessness, grants supporting disadvantaged young people are made in the UK and Ireland, while in the event of international disaster; grants are made to relief organisations at the Trustees' discretion.
In 2008 the Foundation awarded £1.24 million to 294 charitable organisations benefiting over 200,000 young people.

The Foundation's core costs are funded by Hilton Hotels, so every net pound or Euro raised goes directly to good causes. Donations are funded almost entirely through the generous efforts and contributions of Hilton team members, family and friends and with the support of Hilton guests and company suppliers.
