LAKE TAUPO, New Zealand - Hilton Lake Taupo today announced this would be the inaugural year that the Hilton Lake Taupo Masters Golf tournament would be open to all amateur golfers with a competitive streak who are looking for a challenging yet fun event.

The Hilton Lake Taupo Masters Golf is the newest addition to the New Zealand golfing calendar. The new golf event is presented by the only international five star property in the Central North Island - Hilton Lake Taupo, in partnership with local PGA professional Jim Clelland and Aaron Carter of Total Sport Limited. The tournament brings golfers an opportunity to compete as an individual and part of a team on three courses in three days in a pairs format, but with recognition still given to individual performances. Take the challenge with your golfing mates or register individually. The beauty of playing in tournaments like this is you get to compete and meet people of similar age and ability.

Taupo has long been recognised as a golfing destination in its own right, with three high quality courses within a 20km radius of the town.

The Kinloch Club, Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary and The Centennial Course at the Taupo Golf Club will host The Hilton Lake Taupo Masters from October 30 - November 1. Playing each course is special enough but to play all three in three days offers a memorable experience.

The event will kick off the evening of Tuesday 29 October with a cocktail reception in the Victorian-style Cellar Ballroom of Hilton Lake Taupo. Catering will be provided by New Zealand celebrity chef Simon Gault's kitchen in Taupo, Bistro Lago.

The tournament's format will see players compete in combined score pairs at Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary and The Centennial Course at the Taupo Golf Club, while best-ball scoring will be used at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Kinloch Club in a nod to the difficulty of that particular course.

Now ranked 76 by Golf Digest Magazine in the Top 100 golf courses in the World outside the U.S., The Kinloch Club has become a must visit golf experience for travelling golfers and local New Zealand golfers alike.

Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary was ranked number one in New Zealand in 2010 and is still rated by many as the one course they most want to come back to. The Sanctuary aspect is continuing to develop and golfers are now able to play amongst pheasant, quail and deer.

The Centennial Course at Taupo Golf Club is a surprise to first time visitors, and certainly no pushover as a test of the game. It has been host to the New Zealand Amateur Championship, the National Inter-Provincial and the International Under 23 Teams Championship. Recent renovations and the removal of many trees have transformed this championship course into more of an ‘inland links" style with generous fairways, penal rough and superb greens. It has its own Amen Corner, holes 13 to 16, and they are the key to a good score.

While competition and rivalry is high on the agenda, teams will focus on camaraderie, fun and socialising. Naming sponsor, Hilton Lake Taupo, will be the hub of the three day tournament with accommodation rates from NZ$185 per night in a guest room.

A wide range of rooms and apartments are available to meet different needs at Hilton Lake Taupo. From guest room, facing the Onekeneke Thermal Valley and providing 332 sq.ft of space to junior suite with separate living room in the Mountain Wing, to deluxe room and relaxation suite in the Heritage Building.

For those wanting to indulge in extra space, one and three bedroom apartments are fully equipped with kitchen, laundry facilities and spacious bathrooms. The presidential suite is also available, occupying 3046sq.ft on the top floor of Hilton Lake Taupo and features sweeping views over the lake, three bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen, living room and home theatre room.
