Hilton Nagoya Launches Local Curry Recipe Competition In Celebration of Nagoya's 400-Year Anniversary
The “Nagoya 400 Curry Project” Begins In Response To Japan’s Curry Boom

NAGOYA, Japan - Hilton Nagoya announced today that “The Gallery” restaurant at Hilton Nagoya will be accepting submissions of local curry recipes from guests and the general public from June 23, 2010 through July 20, 2010 for an exciting new competition. The initiative is in response to Japan’s ongoing love affair with the vibrant and delicious flavors of curry; the aim is to discover a new specialty curry that is “uniquely Nagoya.”
The project, entitled “Nagoya 400 Curry,” is part of a year-long program of celebrations marking the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the city of Nagoya and construction of Nagoya Castle in 1610. Since that time, Nagoya has become renowned for its distinctive culture and unique local culinary traditions.
“We believe our new “Nagoya 400 Curry” project will contribute to Nagoya’s fascinating curry culture. We are very proud to be associated with this special anniversary competition,” said Hilton Nagoya General Manager, Jamie Mead.
The competition is intended to encourage the enjoyment of curry, one the nation’s favorite foods. While best known internationally for its sushi and sashimi, Japan has emerged as a country devoted to enjoying curry. Nagoya is well known for its famous curry brands that use innovative recipes created in the region.
To celebrate curry, Hilton Nagoya will offer participants a unique opportunity to have their recipes evaluated by a culinary team of professionals led by Hilton Nagoya General Manager Jamie Mead and Executive Chef Takashi Tanioka. Each curry entry will be assessed in terms of its commercial value, flavor, creativity, nutritional value and other aspects relevant to promoting the product in the Japanese market. The competition will culminate in the selection of the ultimate signature local curry for 2010.
The final selection will take place August 13, 2010 and finalists will be chosen by the culinary team and Hilton Nagoya guests. The ultimate winner's curry will be sold - for enjoyment at home - by the Hilton Nagoya and other Hilton Hotels in Japan. Finalists’ winning recipes will also be served at The Gallery’s Curry Buffet for three months - a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have your very own recipe featured at the Hilton Nagoya.
