NAY PYI TAW, Myanmar - In celebration of Hilton Worldwide's third annual Global Week of Service, Oct. 19 - 25, more than 50 volunteers from Hilton Nay Pyi Taw went out to Thuzanakarye Orphanage Home and Monastery in Nay Pyi Taw to offer lunch to six monks and 48 underprivileged children on Oct. 24, 2014. Led by general manager, Denis Richter, and Team Members, the hotel donated 425,100 Myanmar Kyat to the facility as well as slippers, school stationery items, clothes, footballs, shampoo, washing powder, medicine and milk powder. The team also spent some time planting vegetables with the children.

Community service is an integral part of Hilton Worldwide's culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across our portfolio of twelve distinct brands and more than 4,200 properties. Hilton Nay Pyi Taw's efforts are a part of Hilton Worldwide's week-long annual celebration of the company's commitment to serving and enriching the communities where we live, work and travel.

"We are extremely excited to have seen a lot of smiles at Thuzanakarye Orphanage Home and Monastery. The children taught us to appreciate the true meaning of sharing and caring," said Richter. "Visiting the orphanage is a significant milestone for the hotel, as it marks our first activity together as a team to contribute to the local community in Nay Pyi Taw."

Thuzanakarye Orphanage Home and Monastery is a local nonprofit organization located in Zayar Thiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw. Aiming to support monks' education in Nay Pyi Taw and nearby townships in Myanmar, the orphanage home has been operated by chief monk U Thu Za Na (Thatdanmazawtikadaza) since May 22, 2006 and provides care for 60 underprivileged male children aged from 2 days to 12 years. The orphanage relies on support from external sources through monetary donations, household supplies and voluntary service.

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide's largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together Team Members from across Hilton Worldwide's offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company's connections with its local communities and bringing Team Members closer together. "From the bottom of our hearts, all the kids here at Thuzanakarye Orphanage Home and Monastery would like to thank Hilton as the first organization to see our need and support us on this trip. It means a lot to the children to meet new faces today and they are very happy to have made new friends through this visit," said U Thu Za Na (Thatdanmazawtikadaza), chief monk at Thuzanakarye Orphanage Home and Monastery. "Kids education in Myanmar is another needy point for all to have a look at and Hilton Nay Pyi Taw will be marked in all our hearts as people who care for us, a little home in the place of nowhere."

During Global Week of Service, Team Members are encouraged to share their personal stories of service and hospitality. Throughout the week, photos and stories will be posted at www.hiltonworldwide.com/serve, on the Hilton Worldwide Facebook page and on the @HiltonWorldwide Twitter account.

In 2013, Team Members at more than 900 properties and offices completed more than 2,400 volunteer projects in 700 cities across the company's global footprint. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide's commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably. This year, the company aims to build upon this community engagement and is striving to complete more than 3,000 service projects.
