JAYA, Malaysia -  The Hilton Petaling Jaya, Hilton’s second hotel and now the longest managed property in Malaysia, will celebrate its 25th Anniversary this May. Themed “25 Years at Your Service”, the hotel will rejoice to this historic moment with their staff, recognizing 36 opening team members as the “Silver Awardees”.

Luc Bollen, General Manager of Hilton Petaling Jaya, said: “As we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Hilton Petaling Jaya, we can’t just help but show deep appreciation to our long serving team members. We recognize them as role models for the new team members to emulate. The hotel has maintained and continues to thrive as Petaling Jaya’s leading five-star hotel because of our committed staff members who always strive for excellence in service and meeting or even exceeding guest satisfaction.”

The 36 “Silver Awardees” will be receiving their 25-Year Long Service Certificate and a recognition pin along with cash incentive. The hotel will also be rewarding them with a dining voucher to enjoy with their family at the hotel’s restaurant.

Rajass Vari Perumal, a housekeeping supervisor, who has been working with the hotel throughout her working career, is one of the Silver Awardees. Joined the hotel as a room attendant, Rajass prides herself with a good memory that helped her to greet guests by their names and prepare their likes and preferences in the room before their check-in.

“I remember my first guest’s comment was from a Swedish couple who stayed with us in room 1018. Back then we didn’t have any feedback form in the guest room and I was surprised to receive a postcard from the couple to inform that they are back home safely,” she said.

“From my 28 years of experience in housekeeping I believe that anticipating guest needs is very important. Back then, we used to only provide iron when requested but now you can find it every room in any hotel. The welcome and turndown amenities are also essential to today’s guests. As a housekeeper, we have to ensure everything is in order before the guest check-in, “she added.

Another Silver Awardees, Ravindren Rajoo, has a strong bonding with the Hilton Petaling Jaya building. Not because of his job as the hotel’s Chief Engineer but because he grew up in the neighborhood.

“I know the site as a mangrove swamp and used to play nearby here when I was younger. The Hilton Petaling Jaya has given me my many “firsts” in career, from creating the first robotic Santa Reindeer and Wishing Well back in the 1980s to recently overseeing the hotel’s transformation to using natural gas for three main energy-guzzling facilities in the hotel building, namely the air conditioning chillers, steam/hot-water boilers and in the kitchens,” he added.

Ravindren started in the Hilton Petaling Jaya as an AV Technician and is now the hotel’s Chief Engineer responsible for all the maintenance and repair works for the hotel building as well as safe operation of all plant and equipment. He heads a team of 27 staff.

To celebrate the hotel’s 25th anniversary with the team, the hotel’s Human Resources Department will be organizing a string of staff activities:

In addition, the hotel management and staff will also play their role as a responsible corporate citizen with “Hilton Petaling Jaya Goes Green”. The team will be planting 250 trees at “Batang Berjuntai”, near Selangor town.

To celebrate with their guests, Hilton Petaling Jaya will be offering great Food & Beverage deals like never before at the hotel’s five restaurants and bar throughout May. Called Catch “25”, guests can expect to pay only RM25++ per person for buffets, happy hour deals and cakes. For more details, visit the hotel’s Food & Beverage blog at www.ZestPJ.com. In addition, there will be a photo gallery at the hotel lobby themed “25 Years at Your Service “ giving guests a walk through history experience and also the many charity programmes the hotel has engaged in since their opening in 1984.

History of Hilton Petaling Jaya
The Hotel roots can be traced back to the days when it was known as the Jaya Puri Hotel, a leading landmark in Malaysia’s premier satellite town. In 1982, the Hotel came under the management of Hilton when the then-Pernas Hotel Chain Holdings Sdn Bhd (now known as Tradewinds Hotels & Resort Bhd) bought over the controlling stake. On February 1982 Jaya Puri Hotel was closed for a RM40million renovation and reopened in 1984 as the Hilton Petaling Jaya (back then was known as Petaling Jaya Hilton).

The Hilton Petaling Jaya officially opened by DYMM Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Syah, the current Sultan of Selangor, on 16 May 1984 was Hilton‘s second hotel in Malaysia and the 17th Hilton International hotel in the Asia Pacific region. Hilton Petaling Jaya is now the longest managed Hilton property in Malaysia.

The Hotel with 398-room opened for business on 2 April 1984. The hotel was made up of a 10-storey main block and a 21-storey tower block, with three restaurants (the current Toh Yuen Chinese Restaurant and Paya Serai were opened then), two bars and an exclusive club and discotheque. The Architect was Abdullah Bakri Berakan Sdn of Malaysia in collaboration with Hilton International’s Department of Architecture and Design. Interior Design by Chhada, Siembieda & Associates (Hong Kong) and Garden Landscaping by Belt-Collins & Associates International.

In 1992, the Hotel had undergone an extensive renovation to maintain its competitive edge. The renovation saw 28 units of a two-storey tower block giving way to 212 rooms, a new irregular form swimming pool, and expansion to the Kristal Ballroom, redesigning of Toh Yuen and Paya Serai Restaurant and the creation of Uncle Chilli’s Fun Pub. The hotel’s built-up area was increased from 210,000sq ft to 433,996sq ft. The renovation works completed in 1994 was in time for the influx of tourists during the Visit Malaysia Year. The 21-storey tower block was officiated by the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on January 1995. The 220-room tower block at a renovation cost of RM75million increased the hotel room inventory to 564.

In 1998, with the change of Hilton global brand identity and to mark an aggressive marketing strategy to strengthen Hilton’s brand equity into the new millennium, the current Hilton Petaling Jaya logo was unveiled on 6 July 1998. The design featuring a bold blue “H” elegantly encircled to symbolize the strength and innovative style that has built the brand since its launch 80 years ago.  The Hilton logo can now be seen on all Hilton hotel buildings around the globe.

Of recent, the hotel did major renovations to the popular Paya Serai Restaurant with a RM 2million facelift, main lobby and public area and a 3.5 million rebirth  of Uncle Chilli’s with a sleek and stylish ambience design by Dan Kwan.
