ROTTERDAM - Hilton Rotterdam celebrates its 50th anniversary by completing the full refurbishment of the hotel and hosting a relaunch ceremony. Specially invited will be the Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb and Simon Vincent, President Europe, Middle East & Africa of Hilton Worldwide, who will freshly unveil Hilton in Rotterdam, just as Conrad Hilton and the wife of former mayor Van Walsum did 50 years ago. The importance of Conrad Hilton's message that Hilton will be anchored to Rotterdam permanently is emphasised with the hotel's complete refurbishment and revival of the openings ceremony. After the anchor was lowered from the rooftop of the hotel, Lee Towers, the voice of Rotterdam, gave his performance to the citizens of Rotterdam in front of the new entrance at the Weena.

"Hilton Rotterdam is an icon of Rotterdam and represents the rebuilding of our city in the sixties. Ever since the hotel opened its doors it has been an important business centre and social meeting place for our citizens," says Aboutaleb, mayor of Rotterdam. "For a metropole like Rotterdam it's very important to have a world-class hotel to welcome its guests to the city. Therefore I'm pleased that Hilton has showed its commitment to our city today by re-establishing the Hilton in Rotterdam. The hotel has been renovated and modernised over the last year in a magnificent way, which is brilliant for Rotterdam. Hilton Rotterdam is heading for a great future."

Simon Vincent, president Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said: "Hilton Worldwide has played an intrinsic role in the modern history of the city of Rotterdam.  Our founder, Conrad Hilton, opened Hilton Rotterdam in 1963 an act which at the time signalled the re-emergence of the city following its suffering during World War II.  As one of the first truly global hotel brands to commence trading in Rotterdam, we have been a leader in innovation and a pioneer in developing full service hospitality in Europe's largest port. I'm very proud to reaffirm that commitment through this comprehensive refurbishment of Hilton Rotterdam which has revitalised the property whilst staying true to the iconic original design crafted by the renowned Huig Maaskant."

Guestrooms and suites
The refurbishment incorporates all 254 guestrooms and suites. The comfortable and modern style of the guestrooms have been inspired by the religious references of lace and subtly blended local references into the design, like the Dutch patterns in the carpet. By introducing "statement" and decorative pieces of furniture and the playful use of colour the design team hopes to create a sense of being in one's own home.

Public areas
The public areas, which are spread over the ground and first floor, are completely revamped and extended. The lobby has 1960s references of interlocking surfaces to the columns and the screens are inspired by 1960s sculptures of Barbara Hepworth and the famous Erasmus bridge. By re-orientating the principal entrance to the main square at the front of the hotel and adding a new porte-cochère, a greater sense of arrival is created. Relocating the Executive Lounge, designed in a library/study style with a contemporary twist, from the first floor to the ground floor will ensure a more accessible and user-friendly space.

F&B
The Stadshal Bar & Restaurant opened in January earlier this year and is one of the key features of the hotel, re-designed with a separate street entrance. Welcoming public areas have been created with a reference to the original classic style of the building, for instance the screens have taken inspiration from 1960s pattern and geometry is giving zoning to the restaurant.

Function and meeting rooms
An extensive redesign of the function and meetings areas, on the first floor, have created brighter and more spacious rooms for seminars and banquets. The reception and corridor areas are remodelled with new refreshment stations and break-out spaces and the carpet on the first floor is inspired by aerial shots of the Netherlands.
