Hilton Set For Take Off With New Hotel Deal At Heathrow Airport

LONDON - On the back of a strong 2007 in London, Hilton Hotels Corporation has signed a franchise deal for a new hotel close to Heathrow airport's terminal five.
With an anticipated opening in early 2010, the new 350-bedroom Hilton will complement its existing 395-bedroom hotel at terminal four and will be a valued addition to one of Hilton's most important cities worldwide.
The new hotel will be located in Poyle and operate under a 20-year franchise agreement with Shiva Hotels. The hotel at Heathrow is the fourth in a 2007 agreement signed by Hilton with Shiva Hotels to open 15 new properties in the United Kingdom.
Overall occupancy percentages reached the mid-80s last year across Hilton's 18 hotels in the capital. With domestic, U.S. and European business remaining strong the hotels also benefited from a new wave of travellers from the Middle East, Africa and the Far East.
John Philip, regional vice president of operations at Hilton, said: "London has established itself as one of the world's top destinations and we're delighted with the confirmation of this new site, particularly with the 2012 Olympics just around the corner.
"The Heathrow deal takes total capital committed to the development of the Hilton brand in London to more than $500m in the past two years, putting us well on track to double the UK & Ireland estate to 150 hotels in the next five to ten years."
In addition to its development plans for Heathrow's terminal five, Hilton has signed an exclusive contract to offer complimentary shuttle bus services to and from its hotel at terminal four.

Alongside new hotel openings, Hilton's ongoing refurbishment programme includes current projects at Hilton London Kensington, Hilton London Docklands and the London Hilton on Park Lane.
When analysing the city's recent success, key international events held in the capital, including the Tour de France and World Travel Market, have helped to boost room rates. The Middle Eastern market was particularly strong last summer, increasing by around 33% on 2006 thanks to Hilton's efforts to personalise its service to the region and develop key relationships.
As well as its corporate appeal, Hilton has focused heavily on the leisure traveller, offering unique tourism opportunities, including packages for the acclaimed Tutankhamun exhibition at the 02, theatre breaks for the booming West End, plus new and improved dining experiences.
Development plans ifor Hilton Hotels Corporoation in the U.K. include the introduction of several brands from North America, including Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton and Doubletree by Hilton. The first hotel operating under the family of brands, Hilton Garden Inn Luton North, is due to open in May 2008.
