Hilton Shijiazhuang Appoints Alan Smith As Executive Chef

SHIJIAZHUANG, China - Hilton Shijiazhuang today announced appointment of Alan Smith as executive chef. Mr. Smith will report to Jeremy Dong, director of operations, Hilton Shijiazhuang, and is responsible for all aspects pertaining to the success of the hotel from a culinary experience.
Mark Ancrum, general manager, Hilton Shijiazhuang, said, "Mr. Smith brings to the role more than 23 years of culinary experience. He is an exceptional chef with an enviable resume having worked in the kitchens of some of the world's finest hotels. We are honored to have him to join our senior team, and wish him much success in his new role."
Mr. Smith joined Hilton Worldwide in 2002. During his career with Hilton Worldwide, he has served as executive chef at Hilton Sydney Airport, Hilton Kuwait Resort and Hilton Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Before joining Hilton Shijiazhuang, Mr. Smith worked as executive chef at Hilton Hefei. During this period, the signature Pan Asia concept F&B outlet "Happy Panda" was awarded as "one the best top 10 restaurants in Hefei" for 2009 and 2010.
Mr. Smith is an award-winning chef. He has won numerous industry awards including the prestigious "All European Food & Drink Award" in 1995 and 1996 and "Best Brasserie/Café Award NSW" in 2003 from the Hotel Association for Hilton Sydney Airport. He has also written several culinary articles for some of Sydney's leading newspapers and food magazines. In addition, he successfully established a television cooking program on Kuwait Local Television that brought kudos for Hilton Kuwait Resort. Mr. Smith has cooked for some of the most notable names in politics, business and entertainment throughout his career. Such names include the former United States Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton; global entrepreneur, Richard Branson; and international supermodel, Naomi Campbell.
Mr. Smith is of Irish origin and holds a diploma in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from College of Catering, London.
