Hilton Waikoloa Village Offers Opportunity To Own History With Live Art Auction On Sunday, July 27
More than 150 Art and Furniture Items Available
July 17, 2014
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Hilton Waikoloa Village will host a live art auction to make space for new pieces that will be a part of the resort's convention center makeover. The public auction will present the unique opportunity for bidders to own a piece of the resort's famed collection with more than 150 pieces of artwork and furniture from the conference center to be auctioned. Such fine collector's items as a noteworthy Buddha statue, a Wyland painting of a whale and its calf in a custom-made koa frame, a cinnabar red carved dragon, and furniture pieces including tables, chairs and sofas will be included. All items have no reserve, with the exception of the Wyland painting.
The items are part of the $7 million collection that was procured during the pre-construction phase of the resort in the late 1980s. The developer of the property, Christopher B. Hemmeter, secured a team to scour collections throughout Asia, the South Pacific and Europe to aquire nearly 2,000 pieces of valuable artwork. The new convention center, slated for completion in September 2014, will have a fresh modern look. The majority of the original collection will remain at the resort.
A preview of auction items will be available for bidders on Sunday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the live auction will begin promptly at 1 p.m. in the Kona Ballroom of Hilton Waikoloa Village. All items won at the auction must be picked up by Tuesday, July 29. Self- parking for the event is free and valet parking will cost $11. The event will feature a cash bar and patrons are encouraged to come early to view the available items before the live bidding begins.
Adding to the excitement surrounding the event, ten percent of proceeds from the auction will go to the Kohala Hospital Charitable Foundation's new emergency room project.
