Hilton Worldwide To Open First Hotel In Catania, Sicily

CATANIA, Italy and MCLEAN, Va. - Hilton Worldwide today announced the signing of a management agreement to open its first property in the city of Catania, Italy. Hilton Catania Capo Mulini Conference Center & Spa will become the company's third hotel operating on the Island of Sicily, and joins more than 25 Hilton Worldwide hotels trading and under development in the Italian market. The hotel is owned by ITEM srl.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa, Hilton Worldwide said, "Italy remains a key development market for Hilton Worldwide, and we're seeing growing appetite across our range of brands. Expanding our footprint in Sicily with this hotel will complement our existing Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties on the island. Sicily is firmly established as a favourite for travelers seeking upscale accommodation, and the Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand already boasts a presence there with the existing Hilton Giardini Naxos. With 420 guestrooms and over 2,500sqm of event space Hilton Catania Capo Mulini Conference Center & Spa will further develop Hilton's portfolio on the island, and introduce the brand to Catania, Sicily's second largest city with a population of more than 300,000.

Catania houses the headquarters of several significant Italian businesses and has also fostered close links with California's Silicon Valley thanks to the preeminence of the technology industry in the region, much of which stems from the district dubbed ‘Etna Valley'. Thanks to these credentials, the city is able to actively promote itself as a venue for conferences and events.

Hilton Catania Capo Mulini Conference Center & Spa will be designed to cater for this demand by providing world class conferencing and business facilities. The property boasts over 2,500 square metres of events space in total including a 1,700sqm ballroom which can also be divided into three separate spaces. An additional 550 sq. m. of pre-function event space is also available along with an outdoor event space, two specialist boardroom facilities as well as a 24-hour business centre.

Set in the tranquil coastal fishing village of Capo Mulini, and with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea to the east and Mount Etna to the north, the hotel is also ideally located for leisure guests. Its seafront location provides ample opportunity to experience the surrounding beaches and a coastline which features tourist attractions such as the Alcantara Gorges and the islands which provide a backdrop to Homer's The Odyssey.

Further opportunities for relaxation and indulgence will be provided on site at the adjoining spa complex which also includes an indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. The hotel will offer two outdoor swimming pools, a seaside restaurant and bars set by both swimming pool and spa areas.

Catania International Airport is less than 20 kilometres away from the property via the A18 highway. The hotel is also within easy reach of Catania's city centre with a regular bus service running directly to and from the heart of the city.
