Hotel Gives Away A Free $10,000 Meeting....And More

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - This year our Sales Team came together to brainstorm an out of the box idea to help local organizations during a tough economic period. Whether it's a rebate to their master bill, free breakfast or free Internet every hotel these days has some sort of value added incentive for meeting planners and host organizations. We chose to give away a free $10,000 meeting.

Our goal was to find one company that was planning a meeting critical to stimulating future business for their company, a meeting that benefited the local Alexandria economy, or to reward an organization with deep local and national charitable roots with a $10,000 completely free, no strings attached, meeting. We incorporated our entire community in the process as well as reached out to Hilton to support this campaign. Opening up this promotion to our local Convention and Visitors Bureau and to the Hilton Hotels brand enabled us to receive exposure we would've never received had we promoted this on our own. We wanted to give back to those in the community who were not just surviving, but thriving in the current economy.

We were fortunate enough to have 110% support from Hilton on this initiative. We worked closely with John Carroll our Brand Performance Representative, who suggested that we contact the Hilton PR Department. John Forest Ales helped us spread the news and linked the official Hilton Hotels Facebook page to our page, connecting us to 25,000 plus Hilton fans.

Lucky for us, the support we received from the brand doesn't end there. We narrowed over 100 submissions we received to just three organizations. All with equally impressive and compelling pleas to win this meeting. Kieran Donahue, Senior Director of Brand Marketing for the Americas agreed to come help "judge" and select a winner from our three runners up. Kieran was present along with myself, my supportive general manager ( there aren't too many out there that would support giving away a $10,000 meeting along with a free wedding the year prior), the Mayor of Old Town, and our CVB's vice president of sales.  Kieran was so moved by each of the organizations stories, on behalf of the brand she donated an additional $5,000 to each organization!

With the support of the brand the exposure we received was unparalleled and our $10,000 meeting giveaway was transformed magically into a $25,000 giveaway. Now that's what we call starting the New Year with a bang! Thank you Hilton!
