SHORT HILLS, N.Y. - Jan Larsen, a hospitality industry veteran whose career spans more than 40 years with the Hilton brand, has been appointed general manager of the 304-room AAA Four Diamond Hilton Short Hills located in suburban Short Hills, a bedroom community of New York City. Larsen most recently was general manager of the 569-room Millenium Hilton in lower Manhattan where he was responsible for day-to-day operations during the last 10 years.
"Jan's leadership and extensive expertise in operations and management, coupled with his strong commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences, will be instrumental in guiding the Hilton Short Hill's continued success as a leading upscale hotel in north-central New Jersey," said Ted Ratcliff, senior vice president, operations, eastern North America for Hilton Worldwide. "His familiarity with the metropolitan New York market is a key asset for this position and will serve him well as he begins his new role managing this important suburban property."
From 1998 to 2003, Larsen was general manager of Hilton Newark Airport in Elizabeth, N.J., where he oversaw the hotel's expansion plans including the addition of a 220-room tower and 20,000 square feet of additional meeting and catering facilities. Prior to that, he was general manager of Hilton East Brunswick in New Jersey from 1993 to 1998.
From 1982 to 1993, Larsen held general manager positions at Hilton hotels in Tarrytown, N.Y.; Louisville, Ky.; Greenbelt, Md.; and Cincinnati.
Born and raised in Denmark, he is a graduate of the Danish Hotel and Restaurant School, Copenhagen, where he was educated as a chef. After completing military service in the Royal Danish Navy, Larsen moved to New York in 1973 and began his Hilton career at the renowned Waldorf Astoria.
