Among the many stars at the extraordinary "Kokua for Japan" event on Sunday, April 10, 2011, Team Members from Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa shone bright. With an impressive showing of more than 100 volunteers, Team Members from virtually every department came together to help stage an unprecedented fundraising telethon event that was broadcast around the world.

In the relatively short, three-week time frame to plan the event, Team Members covered every detail - everything from the event planning, setting up chairs and staging equipment on the Great Lawn, manning food booths, selling scrip and assisting with the event.  Many vendors that Hilton works with contributed products for sale, including Roundtable Pizza, Anheuser Busch, Kona Brewing Company, Coca-Cola Bottling, Southern Wine & Spirits.  All proceeds generated by Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa during "Kokua for Japan" will be given to the American Red Cross for its Japan Relief effort.

"I am so proud of our Team Members whose efforts were unbelievable. Without them, this wouldn't have happened. The "Kokua for Japan" benefit concert/telethon on the Great Lawn at Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa was a benefit for the American Red Cross - Japan Relief effort for the victims of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the event drew thousands to Waikiki on a sunny Sunday afternoon to hear the more than two dozen entertainers, including headliners Michael McDonald, Mick Fleetwood, Willie Nelson and Jack Johnson.  At the end of the 5-hour telethon, more than $1.6 million had been raised to help aid the victims in Japan. 

The event received substantial local, national and even international coverage via streaming video on the internet, plus coverage on two of Hawaii's biggest family of radio stations, COX and ClearChannel, in addition to more than a dozen ClearChannel affiliates across the country.  The telethon also aired live on several radio station in Japan, including those in Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, Nagoya and Sapporo.
