Iconic Phoenix Resorts Officially Recognized For Sustainable Practices And Programs

PHOENIX - Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort and Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort are proud to announce that they have received official green certifications from the Arizona Hotel & Lodging Association, in partnership with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Arizona Office of Tourism.

Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort excelled in the new “Certified Green Lodging” program, earning a score of 275 points and surpassing the minimum requirement of 150 points. The resort qualified for this recognition by establishing initiatives such as creating an environmental team that monitors environmental programs, waste reduction and recycling, energy and resource conservation, as well as adopting and displaying an environmental policy that commits to pollution prevention.

The lodging recognition, which was adopted this year, created a way for Arizona hotels to designate themselves as leaders in environmental practices and commit to saving energy and water in the Valley. Currently, Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort is one of only 20 Arizona resorts to receive this designation.

Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort joins its sister property, Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, which received its green certification in 2010. The Tapatio Cliffs property engages in eco-minded practices such as the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs, low-flow water fixtures and recycling containers throughout the onsite offices.

Additionally, the resort established an environmental transformation at its onsite golf club, Lookout Mountain. Ponds were replaced with hazard complexes throughout the course made of bunkers and native desert waste areas. Completed in October, the new design is estimated to save more than 24 million gallons of water, which equates to $140,000 per year.

Both Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak and Tapatio Cliffs properties work in accordance with the Hilton Worldwide mission to operate in increasingly environmentally friendly ways. Recently Hilton launched LightStay, a proprietary system developed to calculate and analyze environmental impact. LightStay has helped reduce energy use, carbon waste and water consumption of over 200 hotel operations from housekeeping to food waste throughout their properties across the globe.
