SAN ANTONIO, Texas - After 43 years of being the most recognized building in the San Antonio skyline, Hilton Palacio del Rio is pleased to announce details of its latest transformation. With an eye towards pleasing the discerning and savvy traveler, the hotel is currently undergoing a $33 million makeover.

"It is exciting to offer a new guest room experience for our visitors," said Robert Thrailkill, general manager, Hilton Palacio del Rio. "It only adds to the appeal of our iconic hotel and the new stylish décor will exceed the expectations of today's business and leisure traveler."

The first phase is a $27 million guest room renovation scheduled to be completed by January 2012. All 485 guest rooms in the 21-story Hilton Palacio del Rio will emerge with a sophisticated and modern style, while staying true to their South Texas setting. In keeping with the local aesthetic, rooms will feature a palette of desert hues with turquoise accents. Local artwork and hand carved headboards will enhance the artisan feel, giving a new twist to the traditional character of the hotel. Dark wood furniture and polished silver light fixtures will add hints of modern elegance throughout the space.

Satisfying the busy business traveler, upgrades in technology include high-speed wireless internet, connectivity centers, and 37" plasma HD televisions. Each guest room will also include a spacious newly redesigned bathroom with wood floors, granite countertops and sapphire blue mosaic tiled walls.

Hilton Palacio del Rio is the only hotel in downtown San Antonio that offers private balconies in every room, affording guests stunning River Walk or downtown views.

In addition to the five suites available at Hilton Palacio del Rio, as part of the renovation, the hotel will debut its brand new Presidential Suite. Offering unparalleled panoramic views of the city, the Presidential Suite features distinctly contemporary furniture complemented by unique artwork and a cool color scheme of rustic wood and earthy red tones.

The hotel's hallways will also be redesigned with understated light sconces, lush fabrics and photography celebrating the city of San Antonio.

The second phase of the renovations will begin next summer and will include a $4 million update on the Corte Real and Salon del Rey ballrooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows will be installed to allow maximum natural light. This phase also includes a $2 million investment in other improvements such as refreshing the Ibiza restaurant and the hotel lobby. These enhancements will bring an esthetic consistency throughout all of the public spaces in the hotel.
