DUBAI, UAE - Hilton Dubai Creek’s award-winning restaurant, table 9, has today confirmed the name of its new Chef Patron. British-born Darren Velvick comes to table 9 directly from the Michelin-starred restaurant, Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, a renowned London hotel located in the heart of the capital’s premier district of Knightsbridge.

Velvick’s arrival at table 9 is a major coup for Dubai Hilton Creek as it seeks to replace the highly successful outgoing team, Nick Alvis and Scott Price, who leave the restaurant on December 31. Velvick will carry on table 9’s reputation for delivering high-quality, original menus complemented with an unpretentious and bespoke dining experience.

Velvick has worked with some of the biggest names in the restaurant business, starting his career with Gordon Ramsey Holdings in 1999 before working his way up to become the head chef at prestigious and exclusive fine-dining restaurant, Petrus. He also went on to assist in the opening of The Gilbert Scott restaurant alongside his long-time colleague and mentor, Marcus Wareing.

Commenting on his appointment, Velvick said: “I am incredibly excited to be joining table 9 at a time when it is enjoying so much success. I would like to thank Nick and Scott for everything they have done – in some ways they have made my job quite easy but on the other hand I have a lot to live up to.”

“I will hopefully bring a slightly different style to the restaurant, with a strong focus on an imaginative menu with high levels of quality, service and innovation in a relaxed, fine-dining setting. We also aim to provide menu flexibility, so whether the customer wants a two course meal or a six-course tasting menu, we will offer a range of options to satisfy diverse individual tastes,” he added.

Simon Lazarus, vice president, Food & Beverage, Hilton Worldwide Middle East & Africa said: “table 9 is a recognised winner with Dubai diners and I am delighted we have been able to secure such a highly regarded and experienced chef to manage one of the city’s culinary treasures. With his proven creativity and flair, Darren can build on the success of table 9 and take the restaurant to even greater heights of innovation”.

“Nick Alvis and Scott Price have achieved so much at table 9 and from everyone connected to Hilton Worldwide, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for everything they have done and wish them all the success for the future,” he concluded.

After several years building one of Dubai’s most successful and well-loved restaurants, Nick and Scott said: “We are incredibly proud of what the team has achieved in table 9 in such a short time. We will be extremely sad to say goodbye to our team and to everyone who helped make the restaurant such a resounding success. We wish Darren and his team all the best and are looking forward to seeing how he will carry on the legacy into the future.”

table 9 will officially change its chef patron on January 1, so those looking to enjoy a farewell dinner with the original table 9 chefs still have time to book. The restaurant will then close for just more then one week, from the 1 January to the 9 as Velvick and his team prepare for the official opening of the new ‘table 9 by darren velvick’. To be one of the first to dine at the restaurant in January, early bird bookings are now being taken by calling +971 4 212 7551 or visit

About table 9 by nick & scott
Unique to Dubai, table 9 by nick and scott is something as unusual as a completely home grown restaurant not affiliated with any chain or franchise. Taking a step away from formal fine dining, the award winning chefs have created a seasonal fluid menu made up of aptly named "smaller" and "larger" plates giving guests the freedom to create their own bespoke dining experience. Guests are equally welcome to indulge in a multi-course tasting menu or simply enjoy a couple of small dishes with a glass of wine on a Tuesday night. The intimate, light restaurant is enhanced by a special range of handmade pottery and ceramics by UAE based potter/ceramic designer Homa Vafaie-Farley, and regularly changing artwork from local gallery Mojo on the walls.
