The New Face Of Byzantino At Hilton Athens

ATHENS - What makes an all-time classic meeting point? How can a restaurant be a point of reference for decades? You will probably think of consistency in quality and service, which are of course of paramount importance. But it is not only that. The key is reconsideration, renewal and adaptation to the new gastronomic and social trends. The Byzantino restaurant of Hilton Athens, the favorite meeting point of the Athenian elite since 1963, decided to reduce its prices by 30 percent, acknowledging current situations, which “command” more economical solutions in dining.
Byzantino offers an enhanced “value for money” experience, without lowering its quality. On the contrary: the buffet options are still plenty and diverse, focusing on Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. Homemade mousaka is the specialty of the restaurant and gains international exposure thanks to foreign guests. More dishes have been added to the à la carte menu, like the Wagyu Burger, the Eggplant Pesto Tagliatelle and the Salmon Fillet with vegetables. Seems like the best choice for a light and pleasant lunch break, while the midday sun seeps through the large windows overlooking the Vassilissis Sophias avenue.
The most important “arrival” is the Black Angus Beef from the Creekstone farms in Kansas, USA, which is served as Fillet, Rib-eye or T-bone with vegetables, homemade French fries and pepper sauce with truffle. Byzantino is the ideal suggestion for an after cinema or theatre dinner, as the kitchen is open until 1:00 after midnight. Moreover, after lunch or dinner, you will be encountered with a “sweet” surprise, as you will be offered a bowl of loukoumades (homemade donuts) with honey or chocolate sauce.
The renewal of the Byzantino is also apparent through the outfit of the staff, as the strict uniforms have been replaced with funky aprons. As far as the new decorative elements are concerned, you will be impressed by the large-scale photos by the renowned Greek photographer Vassili Kalantzis: snap-shots from the countries he has visited, old cars and limos along with portraits of people through an optimistic spectrum of red, orange and pink. The café area is now more of a lounge environment with new couches forming a cozy living room. Byzantino has good news for the smokers as well, who have now access to the atrium featuring the age-long olive tree, the symbol of the restaurant.
