The Waterfront Beach Resort, A Hilton Hotel Celebrates Third Annual Hilton Worldwide Global Week of Service

Local Volunteers Join Thousands of Team Members across 93 Countries and Territories by Serving the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - In celebration of Hilton Worldwide's third annual Global Week of Service, Oct 19 - 25, more than 50 volunteers from The Waterfront Beach Resort, a Hilton Hotel are joining efforts to raise funds for Rafael Medina, a local child battling childhood cancer. Community service is an integral part of Hilton Worldwide's culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across our portfolio of twelve distinct brands and more than 4,200 properties. The Waterfront Beach Resort's efforts are a part of Hilton Worldwide's week-long annual celebration of the company's commitment to serving and enriching the communities where we live, work and travel.

"What started out as simply extending our hospitality and service to the Medina family morphed into a team-wide effort to bring attention to a severely underfunded and lesserknown segment of cancer research specifically for children," said Scott O'Hanlon, director of marketing, The Waterfront Beach Resort. "What we could have never imagined was how much our community would come together for this moving cause."

All funds raised were donated to the Medina family and Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation in Medina's name.

Some of the initiatives The Waterfront Beach Resort undertook included organizing and hosting Medina's Spiderman-themed birthday party of his dreams and a local bake sale fundraiser. The hotel also set up a website where the community could contribute.

Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide's largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together Team Members from across Hilton Worldwide's offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company's connections with its local communities and bringing Team Members closer together. In 2013, Team Members at more than 900 properties and offices completed more than 2,400 volunteer projects in 700 cities across the company's global footprint. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide's commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably. This year, the company aims to build upon this community engagement and is striving to complete more than 3,000 service projects.
