Executive Chef Rohan Fernandopulle Of Hilton Colombo Wins "Chef Of The Year" Award

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka -  Hilton Colombo's Executive Chef Rohan Fernandopulle was recently named "Chef of the Year" at the prestigious 2nd Travel & Tourism Awards 2008.

Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the Travel and Tourism Awards recognize excellence among industry stakeholders in Sri Lanka, which further aids to encourage their contribution to the sustainable development of the tourism industry.

Chef Rohan said: "It is a great honor to win this award, especially when I am recognized by the industry in my homeland. Going forward, I hope to delight guests with more unique culinary experiences, such as the revamped lunch concept at the Spoons Restaurant and a new menu at the popular Sunday Brunch."

One of Chef Rohan's strong specialties is his ability to inject local flavors into international preferences, providing guests with the opportunity to taste first class gourmet fused with the authentic flavors of homegrown ingredients.

Having worked for Hilton International for almost 24 years, and Hilton Colombo for 22 years, Chef Rohan has served world dignitaries and contributed a wealth of his culinary knowledge to various events that have taken place at the hotel.

He has also led the hotel's culinary team to win various accolades, such as 7 medals at Food & Hotel Asia's "Culinary Challenge" held in Singapore in 2006, 40 medals including 21 Golds at Culinary Arts 2007 organized by the Chef Guild of Sri Lanka in 2007, and 3rd Place at the MLA Black Box Culinary Challenge Global finals held in Dubai in 2008.

Chef Rohan is the first Asian, and among the top 35 world renowned chefs, to be part of Club des Chef des Chef, considered to be the most exclusive culinary group in the world.

Held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, the 2nd Travel & Tourism Awards was graced by the Prime Minister Mr. Rathnasiri Wickramanayake, Minister of Tourism Mr. Milinda Moragoda, Deputy Minister of Tourism Faizer Mustapha and other distinguished guests.
